I have had linked accounts at many casinos. In every case each person had a separate card and their own account number, so unlinking the accounts was never a problem. There were no points to divide up. Each person kept whatever points were on their own card.
You must have been playing at a casino that allowed more than one player for each account so the points played by each person were not differentiated. I think I've heard of this. One player was the primary cardholder and the other was secondary. The casino *should* be able to tell you how the points will be divided.
