In early March, I visited a CZR property that (way back then) had multi-line Dream Card 8-5 BP. Both I and the player next to me noticed that, very occasionally, the "Dream Card" offered by the machine had a lower EV than some other card that we could select by using the "Change Dream Card" option.
I now wish that I'd recorded the exact hands/cards and I apologize for not doing that. For this post, I'll make up an example. Say you're dealt "nothing" and the machine offers an irrelevant offsuit 4 when you'd prefer a currently irrelevant high card.
FWIW, I never saw this happen when the true best card would have guaranteed either a win or a one-card draw to a winner.
I recently mentioned my experience to a friend who plays Dream Card at another CZR property. He said that he'd never seen the machine offer a less-than-best card. He knows his stuff, so these conflicting observations prompt two questions:
Q: Can a slot tech "set" Dream Card games to occasionally offer cards that do not have the best EV?
Q: If not, has anyone else observed this happening when dealt a non-winning starting hand?
