[vpFREE] part 1 - Wasted another 2 hours of my life at a drawing/reception

This is getting annoying.  Why can't casino managers come up with promotions that are not annoying (see part 2 for my suggestions).  This time it was the Gold Coast.  An invitation turned up for a party from 4:30-6:30 pm with prizes, food, and drinks listed and $1000 prize listed.  Now for us this is right in the middle of the dinner hour (many of us seniors eat at this time and usual attendees for these things include a lot of seniors).  So you would expect at least a few hot appetizers, if not something like a carving station, and I had been to previous events at the Gold Coast where they had hot appetizers.

But NOOOOO.  Instead the food was the world's saltiest potato chips, crackers, some cubed cheese (when they ran out later they put out crumbles of cheese and cheese slices), fruit (this was the best part - slices of cantelopes, watermelons, a few strawberries and grapes), and dips of INCREDIBLY spicy salsa and quacamole.

People started lining up at 4pm, but of course they didn't open the doors until exactly 4:30 and by then the line was huge.  They started processing names, looking them up on a non-alphabetized list, taking about a minute a person!  I suggested that they let in anyone bringing with them the printed invitation and they could look up the name later to check off the list, and they began to do so, thankfully speeding up the process or it would have taken about 3 hours to let in everyone, instead of the 45 minutes it took.  We were near the front which was helpful because I could never have stood in such a long line with my bad knees.

The good news was the bar was open, but the food was awful.  I went out to buy something from the coffee bar I could bring in and eat and asked when the drawing would be, and was told it would be at 6 pm.  But later they announced the drawing would be at 6:30 pm.

So they had this event from 4:30 to 6:30 but had to wait until the very last minute to do the drawings, which was at least an hour after everyone had entered, eaten, and drunk.  And many of us just sat there and waited, with no music or entertainment either.

People started to leave early, since who would expect the drawing to be at the very last minute of the event?  Two people gave us tickets for the drawing.  Of course that didn't help, we just are unlucky at these drawings.  On top of that, after announcing there would be 11 winners, of course not everyone got the $1000 -- instead it was 5 prizes of $100 and 5 of $200 -- not a really rich drawing.

At about 6 pm the host came over since he heard me say after we arrived and saw the food that this was our dinner hour and the food was very very skimpy, and offered me a comp dinner at Cortez room.  Why didn't he do that at 5 pm?  In the meanwhile my husband had filled up on fruit and I had eaten some ice cream from the coffee bar.

In short, another waste of two hours of my life, sitting being bored, with nothing to show for it but a handful of free salty potato chips and a very small free bailey's irish cream....
