This update I'm doing to More Frugal Gambling is a major and sometimes frustrating job. That is especially true with the slot chapter – so much has changed in these last 11 years since the first edition came out. Anyway, below is a section in that slot section that I need current information about and I'm having trouble getting it. Does anyone know if Lock and Roll is still in NC? And are there Hot Reels still around anywhere – or machines that work like that??????
-------------------------------
"Lock and Roll is an interesting special-feature slot. These machines are found in Harrah's Cherokee Casino in North Carolina where, according to gambling writer Henry Tamburin, they "satisfy state laws requiring video games with a skill or dexterity feature." You can also find similar machines in Nevada and other states, with Hot Reels being one of the most common of these, which are sometimes referred to as "hold-and-spin" machines. With hold-and-spins, you're given a second chance to re-spin individual reels. They're similar to video poker, in that you hold the reels you don't want to re-spin and discard the reels you do. If, for example, the first two reels have jackpot symbols, while the third doesn't, you can hold the first two and discard the third, getting a second chance at hitting a winning combination. "
