Shnorrer (or schnurrer) comes from the Yiddish “to beg.” A shnorrer is a cheapskate, a freeloader, a moocher, someone who, without embarrassment, takes more than is appropriate ... As in the lady who keeps returning to a sampling table at Costco or the fellow who was not an overnight guest, but shows up and loads up at a motel's free breakfast.
Schnorring generally involves very modest $ values and is not limited to foodstuffs.
