Hi Gang:
After a couple of barren months, Hedy and I continued our recent run of
good fortune at Harrah's AC this past weekend with some significant hits on
both Friday and Saturday. But, of even more interest was a couple of things
we witnessed that we've never seen in our 14-year video poker careers.
First of all, I got the weekend off to a rousing start Friday morning when
I was dealt the K-10-J-A of hearts and completed the royal by drawing the
queen for a $4,000 hit while playing $1 9/6 DDB. Later, the same machine
dealt me 4's with a kicker for $800, plus 3's and 2's for $400 along with five
other $250 quads.
A friend, who is also a long-time member of several VP boards, was sitting
nearby and, about a half hour after I hit my royal, I heard her yell,
"Yes!" I walked over and saw on her screen another royal in hearts, this one at
the $2 level, a nice $8,000 score. I was amazed, however, when she told me
that she had been dealt a king-high straight flush and had broken it up to
go for the royal!
"Wow, that was gutsy," I told her. "I don't think that's what the book
says, though."
"I know," she said, "but I was nearing the end of my session, I was getting
tired and figured, what the heck, I'll go for it." She did. And she got
the ace. So, good for her!
Later that night, a young man was playing the same machine on which I got
the royal and the three dealt bonus quads, when he held two aces and drew
the other two plus a kicker for a $4,000 hit. He got his handpay, then ON THE
NEXT HAND he was dealt three aces and drew the fourth plus a kicker for
another $4,000 score! Back-to-back quad aces with kickers for $8K.
Unbelievable!
Like I said, Hedy and I have been playing video poker for a lot of years
but we've never seen two things like that happen, let alone in the same day.
Like Jean Scott says, though, if you play this game long enough you're
going to see just about everything.
