When I first started playing video poker I was severely underfunded but....I had a cash cow in the advantage slots. I was making about $200 a day off the slots. Did I wait until I had a swing resistent bankroll before throwing down on video poker. No, I didn't.
I allocated so much money per week to the FPDW at Gold River. This was in 97 and I got 1% CB on Thursdays and .6666% on Fridays. Those were the only days I played. When I hit my first royal the money went into my bankroll and I didn't change my routine. I continued to play the advantage slots most days of the week and only played video poker on Thursday and Fridays, allocating just so much money to it. Between the advantage slots and the royals it didn't take me long to gain a swing resistent bankroll.
If I were a working stiff just getting into video poker and had little or no bankroll this is what I would do. I would allocate so much money per paycheck to video poker. I would only play with an advantage. When the first royal comes off I will add the money to what bankroll I have. But I won't change the routine. I'll continue to allocate so much money per paycheck to video poker. Every time I hit a royal it goes into my bankroll. The routine will remain the same until I have a swing resistent bankroll. Trust me, if you do it like this it won't take you long to get there.
To me the three keys to successful gambling are knowledge, skill and disciple. The knowledge to figure out an advantage, the skill to exploit it, and the disciple to maintain the pace. A breakdown in any one of these areas will lead to failure.
