I'm in full agreement. As a part-time AP who is still in the process of growing a bankroll, these promotions have been a godsend. I do not use personal results to measure the value of a play, but the impact these programs have had on my game is huge, and it goes beyond the money. I'll be the first to admit I've gotten fairly lucky, but I've doubled my bankroll on loss rebates in the last 9 months.
So what has that afforded me? Obviously, I can play at higher stakes now, which allows me to earn more at a faster clip. But since I am primarily a blackjack player, it bought me something that is irreplaceable: time. It would have taken me hundreds of hours of table play to get to the level I'm now at. Hundreds of hours of exposure to dealers, cocktail servers, floor supervisors, pit bosses, counter catchers, EITS personnel, and others, some of whom want to evaluate me and possibly shut me down. The loss rebate bump has bought me another ~200 hours of play, at a higher earning level. I simply cannot express how significant this is to me.

[vpFREE] Re: Riviera $1000 Sign Up Promo
If a player has a problem with discipline, he will eventually fail, regardless of there being a promotion or not. The casino environment - especially in Las Vegas - is ripe with temptations of excess: eating, drinking, shopping, partying, drugs, sex, and gambling. It's up to the player to "know thyself" and either play it straight or leave altogether.
To say the offer has no value because the undisciplined gambler will blow his wad, I just don't follow that at all. Along those lines, FPDW has no value because many players don't learn proper strategy. Or 3:2 S17 blackjack with 2:1 suited naturals has no value because the plops will still split their 5s and simply hit their 11s.

Betting one coin is much more time consuming but allows you to come closer to the average for hitting the Red Sevens, which I believe is about 10% of the payback.
Thanks for the offer of the beer and shot, but I'm on spin dry. I'm out working everyday. When I'm all dryed out I'm much more idustrious, and my mind works a hell of a lot better. I'm also an early riser when I'm dryed out. I'm usually up by 4 or 5 AM, but I can't get into the casinos until 8 AM. So what better way to spend the time than on vpFREE?

But give me a gambling opportunity where I have a chance to win and there is no danger of "losing" (because there is a loss rebate), and I would do it every day of the week. Of course some people don't have "discipline" in their gambling life, but that is going to be a problem whenever or wherever they play, no matter what the promotion. Any promotion can be a danger for those without discipline!

[vpFREE] loss rebate
Although the $100 loss promotion at the Cosmopolitan does require you
lose $100 to take advantage of it, if you end of winning for the day
just go back the next day until you do end up losing $100 for the day.
We actually ended up winning one day and weren't going to continue
until we lost $100. We went back the next day and did end up losing
and got the freeplay loaded onto our card.
[vpFREE] Re: Riviera $1000 Sign Up Promo
The point is not to lose, the point is to use the $1000 loss rebate as a means to an end (i.e., you're getting a free roll). If you win beyond a certain point it's to your disadvantage to continue playing as anything you lose once ahead you eat 100% of the loss same as any losses beyond the level of the rebate.
Variance is your friend with this. Try for a $2000 win or the $1000 loss as quickly as possible and then STOP playing. Problem is, Riv has been pounded on this already and has restricted most of the machines favorable for the rebate.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Riviera $1000 Sign Up Promo
If a player hopes to win, but loses and takes part in this promotion, since they were willing to lose their initial investment the first time in and did, they will most likely lose the freeplay and maybe more on this and their next visits.
If a player hopes to lose in order to get the freeplay, it is more likely they learned their lesson and might cash out with a good portion of what the freeplay rendered.
I don't see these type of offers as having any value at all. The numbers might be cranked to show an advantage, but the offer does all it can to destroy a player's main advantage - discipline.

[vpFREE] LVH Promos Ended

I'm not 100% certain, but it appears the LVH Tuesday point multiplier promo has ended. I did not see signs in the casino nor did I notice any stickered machines. The promo was pretty worthless anyway because no machines with decent paytables were included.
------------------------------------------
Confirmed, Hilton's Wheel of Winners and 5x points
promotions are no longer active.
