The Vegas Hilton has lost a lot of business. Maybe that is why they now
have a bank of 9/6 JB machines (actually labeled that way!) in the sport's
book, at .50, $1, $2, $5. Points are slow to accumulate there at VP, but
once you get on the mailing list (out-of-towner offers better than local),
they can be generous, with monthly mailers for free rooms and free play,
tournaments, even Macys and Dillard shopping sprees, etc. They also have $1
NSU, Loose Deuces, and several DDB progressive machines, both in $1 and
quarters, and numerous other VP machines. The Sports Book area is one of the
best in Vegas, and always busy. The only downfall to playing in the Sports
Book area is the noise, which can get really bad whenever there is a game on.
They have laid off a lot of personnel, apparently, resulting in often-poor
cocktail service and dirty areas that have not had old drinks picked up.
Also hosts have been laid off, and when I call to book now, I can't get
through to a host, and she doesn't ever call back!
The buffet there is very good. Vegas locals should get a sticker from
slot club for 25% off of all food. The buffet at first may seem to have a
small selection, but actually the food is quite good, and includes very good
salmon, pasta station, good salad bar (with both yellow and red tomato
slices, yum), cold shrimp, prime rib, turkey, etc.
Benihana's sometimes has been having great specials. Leave your card at
entrance to get on the mailing list or ask if there is a monthly special.
For September it was filet and chicken dinner for 2 people for $46 (no
coupon needed)...sorry I didn't post this sooner....It was really a great
dinner, and actually cheaper than the buffet. (Locals discount not available on
"specials" prices, but 25% off normal prices).
They also have Steakhouse and Italian restaurants (sometimes one or other
is closed, depending on day of week), and good coffee shop, Pizza Hut, snack
bar, etc. The pool is very nice too. There is a charge to enter the spa
and use the gym.
The off-strip location may be off-putting for some people, but really the
Hilton has a lot to offer. It is also conveniently on the monorail line.
So if you have friends or relatives coming to Vegas, or if you want to go
there yourself, I recommend it. And they do need the business.
