You make a good point about high meters. You stay until it hits. The
reality for out-of-towners is that it's usually locked up by locals. However, if
you do see a machine with a good meter try to start it before it gets to
"pro" territory & see if you can make arrangements with another player/floor
person to save your seat for those inevitable breaks you'll need. There's
another way to use this: since you know where all the big bankrolls are
spending time, scout the other locations they usually frequent. In slot wonging
this was a great strategy since you could do a number of moderate stuff in
the time it took to take down a lucrative jackpot which required more
time. There's a similar strategy in VP when have multi-way progressives where
the lower lines including the royal are also good.

At M where the rise on the active meter is only .5% the difference is
small. The M progressives may be played almost like non-progressives at your
convenience.
On a 3% single meter you would be loath to walk away before the JP hit.
