They were discussing the huge success of poker, specifically the WSOP, and some amazing growth statistics such as what happened immediately following Chris Moneymaker's win.
Bob "jokingly", or "laughingly", said something about wishing video poker could enjoy the same kind of popularity and growth that poker had. He said it in a laughing manner, but I'm sure inside he is probably not laughing. That IS what video poker needs! A shot in the arm! Something that will bring in the public's fascination, just like poker has enjoyed. I do not pretend to know what that something is. I do know that it will take some creative thinking, some vision.
At the same time, I think we should all be excited about what these guys have pulled off with The M Resort Experiment. Sounds like it's pretty successful so far. I know it's early yet. But the casino is thinking about putting in MORE? Wow, that's a positive thought! The glass is half full.
I'm thinking this might be the beginning of something big. Sure, it's not a new concept, but it is kinda "new" in today's environment. Imagine five years from now, after Bob & Franks little experiment here, served as a prototype and the idea caught on all over the nation. lol Yeah, I know I'm dreaming. But so was Chris Moneymaker.
I can't stop thinking about something I read from Bill Zender's book, Casino-ology. He stated that blackjack's popularity was due to the idea that players could beat the game, and the "ROMANCE" of thinking they could make money and live the good life while doing so. He then concluded that if the casinos were to take away that "romance concept", the game would wither away or at least lose its popularity. He compared the boom in live poker. The public SEES that there can be and are professional poker players, who live the life, making money and living the good life while doing so. Regardless of how realistic that is to the average player, that is what has made the game grow beyond our wildest imagination.
Anyway, you can fill in the blanks, and finish my thoughts. That's the direction video poker has to go. Somehow.
