I've been asked to rank pro VP difficulty and frequently rated it somewhere around playing piano at the good bar-player level. I stand by that rating.
It's very hard, but yes 6-figures is not uncommon for the cream of the crop.
No one in that interview you listened to makes less, and "Larry" likely makes more. More telling is that is has been all those folks sole support for 20+ years and one's quitting.
