Hi Gang:
Maybe there was something to that "starting the New Year on the right
foot" karma we practiced on New Year's Eve because the VP Gods have suddenly
shone their benevolent light on TeamVee as the first days of January peel off
the calendar.
Hedy and I returned to the "casino wars" this past weekend at Harrah's AC
and started to pound away at the $1 9/6 DDB machines with a vengeance.
Unfortunately, Friday was not my day (only one quad in many hours of play) but
the Headster began another magical session early on by nailing aces for
$800. She hit a couple of $250 quads in the next two hours or so then got
fours with a kicker for $800 and fours again at the $2 level for another $800.
The best was yet to come, however.
After lunch, she was dealt the A-K-10-J of diamonds. The both of us have
been mired in a long drought on these four-card royal draws. We've haven't
been keeping a count but I'm sure we had been unsuccessful on well over 150
straight draws to four royal cards, so we didn't expect much when Hedy hit
the button. But, all streaks must come to an end and, happily, this one did
when the beautiful queen of diamonds popped onto her screen for a 4K royal!
My day-long, steady drain on our bankroll whittled our win to a relatively
small one when all was said and done Friday, but it was nice to hit the
royal and keep the positive vibes rolling in 2011.
Saturday saw a little role reversal as I got off to a hot start after
breakfast with ducks with a kicker and aces twice (once dealt) for a trio of
$800 hits. Hedy began slowly, going the entire morning without a single quad.
In the afternoon, however, she finally broke out of her slump with treys
with a kicker for $800, then hit a few non-bonus quads to keep her head
above water.
Of course, she has a flair for the dramatic so, at about 5:30 that night,
she did an encore that had even me blinking in disbelief. Once again she
was dealt four cards to a diamond royal, this time needing the king to
complete it, and neither one of us really believed she could possibly do it again.
Well, seeing is believing!
Sure enough, she held the four royal cards, hit the draw button and the
king was there, giving Hedy had her second 4K royal in diamonds in two days!
Unbelievable!
This time, we held onto almost all of the profit and came home Sunday
morning re-living the happy memories of a double-royal weekend.
We're back at Harrah's this weekend for our final trip before we climb
aboard the Norwegian Epic on Jan. 22 for a seven-night Western Caribbean
cruise out of Miami. We hope the good times just keep on rollin'.
