Not too surprising. Reading books in a casino was a bit high profile.
My favorite books from that year were:
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

Rama II, Garden of Rama, Rama Revealed by Gentry Lee and Arthur C. Clarke

The Book of Nothing by John D. Barrow (Never was so much said about so little so well)

P.S. If you don't cry at the end of the Rama II Series, you aren't human...or an octo-spider.
P.P.S. Rama II is a sequel to Arthur C. Clarke's RAMA. Reading RAMA will increase your enjoyment of RAMA II, but it is not as good as the trilogy he co-authored with Gentry Lee...so think of it as preparatory reading for something better.
