OK. At Moment X you lose the current hand, and you are down $200. You
a) decide to quit b) keep on playing. You need to realize that unless
decision a) means "quit FORVEVER", then there is no meaningful
distinction between a) and b). Presumably you are playing a positive
EV game. If this diminished bankroll still IS a "bankroll", then you
have mentally committed that entire amount to playing the game. In
effect, the diminishing of your bankroll simply means that you are
facing a higher risk of ruin.
If you plan to leave the casino every time you fall behind $200 for
the day, even if that means quitting after, say, 45 minutes, but then
you will return to the casino sometime later, that strategy is
inefficient, in that you will be taking more time, burning more
gasoline, etc. to accomplish the same amount of play as if you had
resolved to play one long session.
Accepting long losing streaks is part and parcel of playing VP; and
if one starts with a minimally adequate bankroll, the sad truth is
that the most likely result is that that bankroll will drop to
inadequate levels. So don't worry about being underfunded; things may
very well turn around. If your goal is to stay in action no matter
what, you might consider dropping down to nickels, but that almost
always entails accepting a much worse paytable.
