I had a major problem with the code language of math when I first
started studying the mathematics of a 52 card deck. It was like
trying to crack a safe. But then I ran into a book by John Scarne
called "Scarne's Guide to Modern Poker." The book can be found in
many libraries around the country. Chapter 10 was called "The
Mathematics of Poker." It was a huge eye-opener for me.

He wrote all the equations without using code language. He starts
with how many 5-card combinations are in a 52 card deck. Then shows
the math for how many of those combinations make a RF, SF, 4K, FH,
FL, ST, 3K, 2P, One Pair, and even how many combinations make an Ace
High, King High, Queen High, Jack High.

I used his nice little clinic, and the logic of it, to teach myself
the rest.
