Hi Gang:
After getting battered and bloodied during a seemingly interminable 11-night
stay in Vegas just after New Year's, Hedy and I hunkered down this week at
Harrah's AC to take advantage of a 7X, 8X, 9X base credits promotion that
spanned three days ... Monday, Friday and Saturday.
Despite the fact that we hit three $1,000 royals at South Point, our Vegas
escapade left us a little discombobulated because of some rocky VP terrain on
the royal-less days. We did get three nice jackets for our jackpots, however,
thanks to a promotion SP is running for the month of January.
We also enjoyed our stay in Sin City for a number of other reasons, though.
We reconnected with some old (and I use the term lovingly) friends at South
Point (Tom Levinson and Joan Schneider), enjoying a terrific dinner with them
and our host at Don Vito's. We hooked up with our buddies, Jean and Brad
Scott, at the Silverton and enjoyed the company of Linda (Misscraps) and friends
at the stylish Wynn buffet.
While in town, we also spent an afternoon at the massive Consumer
Electronics Show at the Convention Center and, while at South Point, we saw the Four
Freshmen in concert, a very nice, albeit sleepy, show.
We also touched base with another Vegas buddy, Jim Tsalikis, and his wife
Anna May, running into them during one of our two stays at Caesars Palace.
While at Caesars, I played in two Texas Hold 'Em freeroll events but didn't cash
in either, getting bounced out rather abruptly during the Kamikaze-like
shootout rounds.
Our main companion during our trip, however, was another good buddy, Sabyl
Cohen, who was staying at South Point the same time as us. We thoroughly
enjoyed hanging out with her and I, particularly, loved hearing her insights and
stories about the world of high stakes poker.
Anyway, we returned home looking forward to our RC multipliers this week at
Harrah's, but after the first two days we found ourselves in the hole for
nearly $3,000 while earning about $525 in comp dollars that we would be able to
convert to cash 1-for-1 next month.
However, the sun broke through today (Saturday) while we were playing 9/6
JOB early in the morning. Hedy and I got to the one bank of machines that offers
9/6 in quarters, halves and dollars at about 7 a.m. to find that only two of
the five machines were available, even at that ungodly hour. Luckily, they
turned out to be the "hottest" ... I know, I know, there's no such thing as a
hot machine! ... in the bank.
On mine (the second from the left), I put in $200 and immediately started to
play 9/6 JOB at the dollar level. In about 30 minutes, my $200 had grown to
$400, thanks mostly to quad aces. A few full houses and flushes later, I
found myself at $540 when I was dealt the A-J-10 of spades. I discarded the two
strangers and up popped the most beautiful Q-K of spades you've ever seen.
I thrust my arms into the air and Hedy (seated two machines to my right)
jumped out of her chair and into my arms. Yes, sir! A sweet $4,000 score!
After I got paid, I continued to play and my machine just kept hitting hands
one after another. Another quad, back-to-back boats, and flushes too
numerous to count. When it got over $700, I was sure that this machine was truly
possessed and I was going to hit ANOTHER royal. But, alas, the inevitable dry
spell hit and when $700 dwindled to $400, I cashed out, still showing a small
profit besides the royal.
Hedy, meanwhile hit aces twice on her machine (once when she switched to
double bonus) and she later cashed out with a $300 profit.
We decided that, despite it being a 9X multiplier day for us, it was best to
fold our tents and run for home with our profit. And we did just that.
So, we wiped away some of the sour taste of our Vegas trip and will be
looking to convert our RC's to cash Feb. 15 at Harrah's as icing on the cake.
After a disastrous 2007, maybe the fact that we hit four royals in January
is an omen of better things to come in 2008. We can only hope so.
Regards,
CoachVee (Tom V) & Hedy
