Sharon,
I am actually the "L" word, a liberal, who generally believes in a
live and let live attitude. If you're not hurting someone else,
then who cares? In this regard, I believe that Marijuana, sodomy,
euthanasia and other victimless "crimes" should be universally
legalized. However, such is not the case with smoking in a public
or quasi-public place. Second hand smoke does impact the health of
other people (even if it's not blown in their face), by increasing
the risk for lung cancer, COPD, heart disease and other maladies.
Geez, they passed public non-smoking laws in Paris, the epicenter of
the smoking culture, effective 1/1/08. I don't thing the whole
extra-casino world is trying to gratuitously punish smokers. We
just want to reduce the risk of second hand smoke in the face of
mounting medical evidence that it causes disease.
