As of today they are saying that the first 27 floors of the Monte Carlo and
the casino may open soon. Soon is undefined, but perhaps just a few days.
Most of the damage was to the roof and facade and the top floor, with some
water damage down to 27. So they will try to open the casino and most hotel
rooms while they fix the upper floors.
Most guests were reaccommodated to other MGM properties, and most either
picked up or were shipped their luggage. All rooms were comped.
Hotel employees are being given paid leave (including tips) until the hotel
reopens.
The outer facade apparently was covered with a highly flammable foam
insulation, which was legal in its day. The fire department and Clark County are
asking that this insulation be removed and replaced. Apparently if it can be
removed without debris falling on people below, the casino and hotel will be
allowed to reopen during this construction.
