An attempt to access the old message base archive comes up as "Under
  Construction".

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but is there any prospect for
restored access anytime soon? What's the general picture?

This is the first inquiry about the old messages that I've gotten
since the Yahoo vpFREE message archives went away.

We've been archiving all of the vpFREE messages posted since 10 OCT
2019, and they can be read here:

  https://groups.google.com/g/vpfree-archives

This link is at the bottom of vpFREE messages.

I downloaded, and now have on my computer the old vpFREE messages
beginning in OCT 2002. They are text files, very large (they total
almost 400 megabytes), unformatted and pretty unusable.

I spent several months working with some computer knowledgeable
volunteers on getting the messages indexed and formatted into usable
html files, but have been unsuccessful so far.

I think the volunteers have given up on the project, and I've moved
the project way down the list on my "things that need doing" agenda.
