I went to the Gold Coast today (Tuesday). The casino was not very busy and it was easy for me to find a machine I wanted to play which was one of a group of two machines, so no one could sit beside me. A couple of other players came to nearby machines but were pretty much at least 6 feet away. I immediately saw an attendant wiping down machines. However to be on the safe side, since I am a Senior, I also wiped down my own machine and chair with Clorox wipes before sitting down. If you are vulnerable to Covid19, I would suggest you take similar precautions.
I wore a mask, as did about 50-80% of people. Some removed masks while playing at machines. On entering I passed through a temperature check, which I think has dubious use since the virus can be transferred when you do not have a fever or other symptoms.
I did not notice hand sanitizer stations around the casino, although I assume there are some. There was hand sanitizer in the rest room.
Table games were not very busy, but even though some chairs have been removed, I would not recommend playing them if you want to social distance at least 6 feet.
Subway, coffee stand, Ping Pang Pong were all open. Strangely cocktail waitresses wore masks but did not wear gloves. I brought my own drink, but if I had needed a cocktail I would have wiped down the glass.
Overall I felt safe gambling because I was using extra protections and avoiding close contact with other people. I think as time passes people will grow more careless, so if you want to avoid the possibility of getting infected, be cautious and use sanitizer and wipes.
Interestingly, since it has been 3 months since I had gambled, I found I was playing slower and enjoying it less than usual. But it was good to get out of the house!
If casinos can continue these precautions and most players use masks, hand washing, sanitizer, and social distancing, I think it casinos can continue to operate. If familiarity breeds contempt however, infection rates could go up. Let's hope for the best, but meanwhile, go cautiously.
