I agree with you 100%. It does seem that our government is over-reacting.

Usually I ride a mobility scooter there (we live a mile from the Palms) and my husband Ron takes a public bus. But since we own two scooters, we both rode mobility scooters today to avoid the bus. We went to the Gold Coast casino buffet, where there was a noticeable drop off from the usual customers. It was very easy to eat at least 6 feet away from anyone else. We put on gloves, wiped our chairs with Clorox wipes, and asked waitress if they had sanitized tables (yes). We then got our food, so the gloves were touching any tongs or serving utensils. Carefully removing gloves, we ate with the utensils provided (we tried not to go too crazy)l. If we went back for more, we put the gloves on carefully so as to not contaminate ourselves. We found out the servers are being rotated on a 4 day a week basis since business is off. Then came hand washing. I also gave out a couple of extra tips to people, knowing that the buffet could get closed down entirely soon.
Then we went to the Palms casino across the street. Again a noticeable drop off in business since you could now easily find handicapped and other parking spaces where it is normally full. Table games seemed the most affected in both places. It was easy to find a video poker machine I wanted to play some distance from other players. Again we used Clorox wipes to wipe off chairs and also the screen and buttons on the machine. Ron ordered a alcoholic drink from a server. It was now served in plastic cup instead of glass. He didn't wipe off glass though. I didn't order one, and instead drank from my pristine bottle of soda brought from home.
Interestingly both casinos have added extra hand sanitizers around, which we did use if we passed one. But while the Gold Coast's worked fine, it seems the Palms cannot get its act together to keep them full, and all were out that I tried. This happened a few days ago too, and I complained both times.
Traveling carefully involves several extra steps. For example when we needed to press a walk button at a street intersection I pressed it with the bottom of my cane instead of my hand. If no automatic door openers were available, we waited for someone else to open the door, or took out a wipe to hold or rub so we were not touching door.
Since the casinos were not busy it was no problem to avoid other patrons, so I think it was a pretty safe outing.
On the other hand, the way things are going, we may not be doing a buffet again for quite some time, or going to a casino. When I got home I saw that the Wynn/Encore properties have now closed "temporarily." No way to know how soon other casinos may close due to an over abundance of caution. Las Vegas's main economy is the casino industry and tourism. Without casinos and tourists, thousands and thousands of employees would be out of work, restaurants closing, shopping closing, and all those employees would not be buying anything from outlying areas, and so on. A downward spiral. Within a couple of weeks I believe there would be people begging on streets and perhaps riots? Who knows. Of course this is true of everywhere if some sort of balance is not made between concern for the virus and the economy. So far businesses and the governments (National and State) seem to think all these closings will last for 2 or a few weeks, then things reopen somehow.....but the virus will still be lurking and if cases calm down, they are likely to resurge once people start working and traveling again.
Distancing from other people where possible is a good idea, along with taking precautions such as staying away from crowds, using gloves and sanitizers, washing hands BUT...do we really need to close down every business in the USA until a vaccine is found a year from now? It still seems overkill to me.
