I think the only practical way to get good at JW2 is to prepare a chart
in the format that suits your personal learning style. Then develop
mnemonics to memorize the complex rankings of hands with the joker and
without the joker. Then practice quite a bit using one of the software
packages, or the practice application on the Wizard of Odds' site.
Going through this whole process will aid learning, better than picking
up someone else's prepackaged strategy chart. That's what I did, and I
had quite a good time with the game for a while, though I'd need to
spend a lot of time brushing up on it by now.
JW2 is a very good game in a handful of locations. If you can play
close to optimally, and have the opportunity to receive good comps and
offers, you might have something worthwhile. I think that the game
survives BECAUSE it is so difficult to play well. Casino managers know
that they can assign it a decent theo, and the vast majority of players
will be big losers on the game.
Discussion on this forum of the taxation of winnings long ago became
tiresome, frankly. I no longer wish to get drawn into threads on the
subject. The same old misconceptions continue to abound. The subject
IS a bit complex. If someone has a good summary of federal and state
laws pertaining to taxation of video poker profits and receipts, perhaps
everyone could just point to the location of that summary when the
subject comes up.
