Yesterday, they updated my tier score to the new system. Last week, my score was 237,100 and yesterday it changed to 1,739. It is hard to know what to say about such a change. Even with the modified card levels (e.g., Emerald level 15,000 to 49,999), just the optics of such a reduction appear really negative. While I will have a better idea when I am at the Gold Coast next week, based on what I have read so far, it sounds like being able to significantly increase the tier score will also be increasingly difficult.
Then, there is the issue of earning B Connected points. As an Emerald level (previously, I had been over 250,000), I was earning 3X points. Now, it appears the basic earning rate will be .5 points, a reduction of 83%. There has been mention that you might also receive "bonus" points, but, while that should help, it remains to be seen how much of the reduction will be mitigated by these points. The 11X Bonus Point Multiplier on Young at Heart Wednesdays sounds nice, but if this is just 11X the new rate of .5, then it really equates to 5.5, which could be comparable to one of the lower Mystery Point Multipliers received under the old Wednesday rules.
I understand that casinos feel the need to periodically make adjustments to improve their bottom line. However, at least to me, this sounds like a larger reduction that I would think is reasonable. I can't believe these are the kind of changes that will draw more people to these casinos.
As I say, I will be at the Gold Coast next week and will get a better idea of the effects of the changes. I appreciate the information and comments that all others more knowledgeable than me have made regarding the changes.
