Some of you who play at Stations casinos may be interested in actions that were taken against both my wife and I during the Big Spin Cash Giveaway that they ran in May. First off, both of us were put on their D.N.I. (Do Not Invite) list in April of this year. I am guessing that the geniuses that run the parent company, Red Rock Resorts, are under the impression that owning and running a gambling enterprise is a short term endeavor, and if a player in one of their casinos gets much better results than the suits thinks is normal, they will no longer mail you the monthly benefits booklet. This is certainly well within their rights to do. I assume that casinos, just like us as players, do not like to lose money. I am ignoring the possibility that some players have the character flaw from the Anne Lennox--Eurythmics hit Sweet Dreams (are made of this) lyric that states that "some of them want to be abused". As players, if we are losing, we can choose to play elsewhere or stop playing altogether. As owners, they can make the move that they did to offer no incentive benefits to players that they would rather not play in their casinos. What follows next is way beyond that.
For quite awhile Stations casinos have been printing a fold out of official rules on every promotion that they are doing in that particular month, and May rules were available shortly after the first of the month. I got a copy on our first visit to the SantaFe casino in May, as I do each month, to look to see if there was anything of interest. I always insert both of our player's cards before we play for multipliers, free entries, etc. I felt this was especially necessary, since we had been put on this D.N.I. list the previous month. One of the promotions for May was named the Big Spin Cash Giveaway, and we each received 10 free entries to this drawing on our first visit and each visit after that in May. This certainly led me to believe that we were going to be eligible for this drawing, as they were giving us free entries into it. In the rules brochure section for Big Cash Giveaway Drawing—How To Become Eligible To Participate In The Drawing, Rule number 1.a reads as follows: "Guests may begin earning entries on Momday, April 30, 2018 at 12:00 a.m. through Monday May 28, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. Guests can earn entries by:
a. Playing any video poker, video reel, reel slot, video keno, or video blackjack machine, and will earn one drawing ticket for every fifty points earned; point multipliers and/or bonus point awards do not count towards earned entries."
This seems quite specific to me and easily understandable. Shortly after the middle of the month on another visit to the SantaFe, I was curios as to how many entries we both had accumulated, so when doing our player cards swipes, I clicked on the green ticketless icon to see how many we had. It was clear to me that the only entries credited to us were the free ones that we received by plugging our cars into the kiosk. Went to talk to the rewards center rep. and he told me that he would check into it and let me know if he could find out anything, thinking that it may have been some kind of a glitch. Did not hear back from him, so on the next visit, I asked for the rewards center manager and she told me that her boss had instructed her to tell me that we were not entitled to receive any of our earned entries. I felt that this had to be a violation of one of the many Nevada gaming laws, so two days later I went to the SantaFe and on arrival, I phoned the enforcement division of the N.G.C.B (Nevada Gaming Control Board), and requested that they send an agent to meet with me at the SantaFe and straighten out the bonehead making this ticket denial decision. Officer Paul Tucker was there within a half an hour of my call. I had printed a note covering all the details I have stated above, and he then went in to meet with what Stations calls the "Director of Player Development", a Mr. Kenny Weinstein. Is it me, or does this sound like someone who can help LeBron James improve his jump shot? Anyway, officer Tucker had no success in convincing Mr. DUUUHH-rector that Stations was making the wrong decision. The drawing is long over with, but I did stop by on drawing day and took photos of the incorrect number of tickets that were in our accounts, which were still just the free at the kiosk tickets. Did anyone else have this happen to them on this promotion? Since the N.G.C.B. has 45 days from the filing of a complaint, they should communicate their decision to me a week or so into the month of July. If they tell me that what Stations did was legal, I am considering requesting an actual hearing in front of the board. How can this be legal? Is it because the official rules use the word guest, and since we are on the D.N.I. list, we would not be guests, but would be casino squatters instead?
As players, I think most of us understand that our play results vary from bad, overly bad and from good to overly good. Do casinos realize that the gaming business is a long term expectation industry? Unfortunately, even though I think we were illegally punished by having our earned drawing entries thrown into the trash, I also feel that the N.G.C.B. is going to rule that what the SantaFe did was legal. My thoughts are that casinos have this division of law enforcement right in their pocket. How is it possible that the SantaFe thought they would really punish us by taking away our severe shot in the dark at being called as a winner in this drawing and replace that with a beyond slim and none chance by throwing out more than 1,500 tickets that we earned legitimately playing by their printed official rules? As further proof of how vindictive and totally stOOOpid they can be, on a couple of our final visits to this despicable place on My Generation Senior Wednesdays, they removed the free Starbucks tall coffee from our accounts. This benefit is clearly visible on all of the Station casinos websites, and advertised on their info. screens throughout the casino. I'll bet that all of what I have reported here will make you want to run right out and give them some play!
Any comments on this situation is quite welcome, especially if any of you are legal knowledgeable. If anyone has something that they would not be comfortable posting to the group, please shoot me an email. I will post any updates I get on my case.
