[vpFREE] Re: XVPfree: Bingo at Plaza

I don't remember what year it was that Becky shut down the bingo at the Horseshoe. It was about that time that the Plaza opened up their bingo room. I had it figured that the 9 AM and 11 PM Plaza sessions could be played at an advantage because of the lack of players and the same payouts as the busier sessions.

I bought the cheap blue packs for $4 each and when you bought 4 you got two extra six-ons so was playing on 36 cards. I played it for several weeks and showed a $3700 profit.

The final game of the session was called, I think, my memory is fuzzy, the Bonanza Coverall. It was a progressive with the jackpot starting at $5000. On this game 48 numbers were drawn before the session started. A 3-on for the game cost $1.You then daubed all the numbers that were drawn before the session started. If you figured to be to far out to have a chance you simply went and bought another 3-on. You could keep doing this until you had a card or two that was only 4 or five numbers away.

A good percentage of the handle for this game went into the progressive because it would frequently go above $20,000. In the first week you had to hit the coverall in 48 numbers to win the jackpot. Then the number would move to 49 for the 2nd week. Then to 50, etc., etc. If the jackpot did not go then there was a $500 consolation prize for hitting the coverall.

During one stretch the number got up to 52 and the room was still just pulling in the usual number of players. The week ran from the 9 AM session on Monday to the last session on Sunday. Then the number moved up.

So on the Monday morning when the number went up to 53 I was surprised to see that the room was packed. It was then I realized that there was a subculture of gamblers that chased these kind of bingo progressives around Las Vegas. I had the good fortune to meet one of them at my table.

One of the interesting things he told me was the number would never get to 54. That at 53 numbers the jackpot always got hit. All of the sessions were packed that day. And sure enough the progressive got hit early the next morning.
