Another, maybe more concise way to think about this: If you play forever, your results won't be the EV, instead you have an infinite distribution of dollar results whose average is the EV. If you were playing with an edge, 99.9999999...% of your possible results would be positive. The more you play a game with an edge, the more likely you are to have positive net results.
