[vpFREE] Re: Scenes from the movie Casino

Hi, Karen. The key to the screenshot is the red sign that says "Liquor Cocktails." That's the sign that was over the door of Atomic Liquors in the 900 block of Fremont Street. The oldest bar in Las Vegas. The scene was shot looking west from the intersection of Tenth and Fremont.

Joe and Stella Sobchik owned Atomic Liquors. It was my dive bar watering hole in Las Vegas. I knew Joe and Stella well. They were wonderful people. They were both in their eighties at the time. They named the place after the atomic explosions they witnessed in the fifties. They owned the old gas station/garage next door. It had been closed down for years. But Scorsese used it in the movie.

Joe and Stella died withing a few months of each other. Their son inherited the property but it sat shuttered for a few years before a buyer was found. I've read that they have plans to turn the old gas station into a restaurant for the bar.

Here is the same scene shot from a different angle. You can see the word "Atomic" on the exterior wall of the bar.
