Well, tada! I received my US tax return today. My wife, on the other hand, received a letter about three weeks ago advising her that it would take another four to six weeks to process hers.
We filed, by mail, in early January, 2015. I do not believe electronic filing is an option for us. This original attempt at filing failed - it was either lost in the US mail, or at the IRS. We refiled in early March - so it's been a mere nine months for mine to be processed, and it looks like hers will be ten or eleven months! Travesty is too mild a word, in my opinion, to describe all this.
There is a long list of countries having tax treaties with the US that provide for zero withholding. I can't fathom why our Canadian government hasn't secured the same provision for its citizens.
Worse still, our combined withholdings for 2015 are about triple those of 2014. Who knows when we'll recover that!
