Ex-military is a bit extra touchy. 30 years ago I had enlisted, never left the country and rarely talk about it. There are people that when they find out treat me much better even when I make it clear that my sole contribution was inventing new ways to discreetly scratch myself in the heat.
I feel there is a bit of a difference with playing the rube at a casino where it is sort of expected and other portrayals.
