[vpFREE] xvp - Cafe6 at Palms (Place)

We were invited for a special lunch to try out the new Cafe 6 at Palms
Place (on the 6th floor of the condo tower) which has replaced Chef Kerry's
restaurant (which was quite good). The new cafe isn't bad, just strange. I
am not sure who would go out of their way to eat its eclectic menu of
mostly sandwiches and burgers. It doesn't open until 11, so anyone staying at
the Palms wanted breakfast needs to go elsewhere. Having a couple of
breakfast items on the menu would have been a good idea for those of us who get
up late (2 of us at the table hadn't had breakfast by noon).

I found the menu a bit too long and too hard to follow, with lots of
artistic typefaces and eccentric names for items. There are many types of
interesting burgers, and you can also make your own, choosing different types of
buns (including taro, which unfortunately didn't work for a burger), meats
(including turkey and brisket among many choices), and different toppings.
Looking carefully on the menu revealed a couple of hidden entrees
including salmon, which was quite good, some salads, and some other types of
sandwiches, such as the very large "BLT stack". Portion sizes are quite
generous.

We also tried out a couple of the appetizers, including a very large and
salty pretzel with dipping sauces, spicy fried shrimp in some sort of Thai
sauce (not very good), and fried pickels (which were delicious). Deserts
include some interesting milkshakes, cakes, and excellent donuts with some
nutello inside (they should have left that out) and dipping sauce.

The lunch-type menu continues on through dinner. There is no longer a
nice Sunday Brunch at the restaurant, though apparently they may try to bring
something like that back.

All the diners at our table kind of agreed that although the food was good,
we really wouldn't go out of our way to go back or bring friends, as we
had with the previous restaurant.

The Palms 7-11 Cafe in the main casino has excellent burgers (better than
the one I tried here) for less money, so burger fans might as well go
there. Hooters has already opened a small section near the pool, and soon will
open full-scale, so this is another lunch-type restaurant.

The Palms has a variety of restaurants. One of the best restaurants in
town, Alize (French) is there for splurging with a fantastic view of the
strip, N9NE is a decent but noisy steakhouse, and Nove Italiano is pretty decent
Italian (with a view of the strip). Unfortunately the newish Chinese Lao
Tse Schwan isn't open for lunch. The casual restaurants now are the buffet
(it has gotten a little better but still is very inconsistent in quality),
Hooters soon-to-open fully for wings and a lot of other choices, the 7-11
Cafe with a limited menu, Cafe6, and the food court.
