And we've all had that run where we play 20 or 30 hands (or more, I don't count 'em, although that might be something worth doing so I can complain about it quantitatively) and can't get anything at all to pay, not even a high pair, where the credits just spiral downward without a single uptick.
Barry, since you mentioned a high pair, I'll eliminate all of the wild games. I don't have winpoker handy but let's say the particular game only returns a high pair or better 30% of the time ( purposely low). No pay out in 20 hands would be (0.7)^20 or 1 in 1250. None in 30 hands is 1 in 44,366. Now, I took a very high non hit number ( 70%). If I used 50% as the chance of a paying hand, 0 for 20 is over 1 in a million and 0 for 30 is over 1 in a billion.
The point here is that we need to be a little more careful with numbers. Video poker probabilities are very well defined and exact. Much of the quoted numbers I see on vpfree just don't sound right. Now, gamblers exaggerate and keeping accurate records is much more difficult than you think. Still, we should all be a little more careful when throwing numbers around.
