I don't think there's much real sparring going on. Every VP player (pro/advantage/recreational/clueless) decides (deliberately or via default) how far into the land of many decimal points he or she is willing to venture.
Experts like Bob Dan and several others basically provide VP players with road maps to whatever level of expertise/commitment the player chooses.
