Re: [vpFREE] Bob Dancer's LVA - 29 JUL 2014

Bob Dancer has one failing that bothers me.
He assumes that everyone reading his column that plays video poker is doing it for a living or playing mega stakes. If he doesn't make that assumption he certainly writes as if he does.
I'd be willing to make a wager that the vast majority of his readers are people that just want to play the game fairly well and at moderate stakes, have fun and free vacations.
I've been playing Video Poker as long as Bob Dancer if not longer, and I was a mainframe computer programmer for a much greater period of time than he was.

Bob, computer programs rarely are stagnant.

User requirements change, government rules require change to programs.
A minor error in a computer program can lead to massive problems and errors with huge costs. Everything that a computer does is magnified by huge factors. That is not so in video poker. In video poker minor errors lead to minor losses in the game, although I will grant you that if you play a lot that it will add up in the long run.

I had a very long career at IBM mainly working on computer programs that constantly required changes. You are correct about testing but are clearly wrong about programs being static. I think you used a poor comparison .

A.P.
