Just showing a diamond or 7 star card upon checkin alone wouldn't trip you, but if they swipe it or give you points for your stay, you would be tripped. I would check in at the diamond desk on a business trip, flash your cars, but specifically say you do not want any points for your stay and hopefully that routed do it.
Whenever your card is swiped, you probably are tripped, for example getting free monthly show tickets, or paying with cash for something and they ask for your card and then swipe it to give you points.
If you don't care about future offers from that property, then swipe away. If you do, try to avoid those zero play days as much as possible.
