If you're playing a +EV game the Palms won't ever comp you, but you can get comped and earn points at Sam's Town even if you're playing FPDW. I just spent five days at the Palms and five days at the Gold Coast, and they were both reasonable. I got $30 a day for gambling for two days at the Gold Coast, $25 ad day for food, and a free room for the whole stay. Through the Las Vegas Advisor I got a great rate at the Palms and their excellent $50 coupon, and I bought a $40 slot coupon for $25 on an internet gambling site.
At the Palms I got one set of ducks and one royal which made me positive for the stay after the room and resort fee while at the Gold Coast I had to play NSUD which left me barely positive even with their generous multi-point days and a set of ducks on a $.50 machine. On Christmas day I believe as a Sapphire player I was getting five times points though I'm not sure. I ate at Ping Pang Pong which is my favorite restaurant for dim sum and thought I worked things out quite well. Also, by staying at the Palms and the Gold Coast, I avoided the need for a car and got a round trip on a Showtime shuttle which took me to the Palms and picked me up at the Gold Coast. One last thing, I got Restaurant.com coupons for Simon, NOVE, and the Bistro Buffet at the Palms. To my mind, the extra 1.03% you get with FPDW over NSUD is worth quite a bit in terms of comps, and psychologically it's better to play a +EV game like FPDW than a -EV game like NSUD.
