Many small shows are available in Las Vegas at lower cost than the big Cirque or "name shows". Sometimes good discounts for these are available in the half price discount centers, coupons in "what to do, see" books, online, or special "Vegas free shows" discount clubs.
A friend of mine is in one of those discount clubs, he pays $90 a year and then get lists of shows that are free, so has taken me to several. (basically sometimes these small shows want to fill up empty seats, and they know you might buy a drink or gamble while there too.)
Many of the shows are downtown, but some are in other venues.
We just saw SHADES OF SINATRA at the Clarion Hotel (former Debbie Reynolds hotel) on Convention drive, half way up from the Las Vegas Convention Center and down from Las Vegas Blvd (and site of former Stardust).
Very enjoyable show with 3 guys and a gal with good voices singing great Sinatra hits like "Always" "New York NY" "I Get a kick from champagne" (whatever the title of that is), "My Way" etc etc. Great easy listening music. The guys don't try to be Sinatra impersonators, but their voices combined with the Sinatra style do make them sound a lot like him.
A little bit of humor, a whole lot of great songs.
Interestingly the theater (built by Reynolds) has some of the booths from the old Dunes.
My friend has seen quite a few of these smaller shows around town and enjoyed them quite a bit.
So if you want to save some money, or just are tired of Cirque shows, check out some of the other entertainment venues around town.
