"Frenzy" only holds Ace(s) in the bonus portion of the game. (Or deuces in
deuces wild games.) That is how the game plays and has a different paytable
for the bonus game.
For normal casino video poker, most machines can be set to "autohold" by the
casino. Not done very often anymore.
On the vast majority of these, the player can override the decision.
Older IGT products were significantly inaccurate on the auto holds. Newer
IGT are fairly accurate.
WMS machines were awful.
Most video poker machines are set to "auto hold" a dealt royal (I have had
that pleasant surprise twice, once on a Bally product and once on an IGT
product and both "auto held".) and many to do so with other not improvable
jackpot hands.
On a related subject, Dream Card Poker has (Do not have playable version in
my area so this may have been fixed.) a problem with pairing a higher card
instead of the low card in bonus poker.
Ex: dealt 2468 offsuit + dream card, the machine will pair the 8 rather than
the correct choice of the 2 or 4. Videopoker.com had a bunch of errors with
this that have since been corrected.
Every time the "dream card" appears the machine has an icon on the screen
that you can use to change the "dream card".

dealt three threes and ace lets say, that is the correct hold. However this
game automacically holds the incorrect three of a kind only. This was on
