Hi Gang:
Hedy and I just returned from a weekend trip to the Horseshoe (Harrah's) in
Tunica this weekend and although the gambling didn't go so well at the
Roadhouse (the Harrah's property next door that has 24 machines that feature
five games that return at least 99.9%) we had a very nice time.
The trip featured a complimentary visit to Graceland, spa treatments for
both Hedy and me and a couple of wonderful dinners at the Horseshoe's Jack
Binion's Steakhouse with our friends Kathy and Steve from Atlantic City. We
even met up with our buddy Harry Porter for breakfast on Saturday and had a
great time catching up.
The story I wanted to relate, however, is about a very strange blackjack
hand I observed while Hedy and I were at the casino host desk waiting to have
a food comp issued.
The blackjack table nearby had two players, one sitting in seat No. 2 and
the other in third base. I wandered over to watch and noticed that the
dealer had an ace showing. The player in Seat 2 played his hand and got a 19 and
the player in the third base seat stood on 17.
The dealer turned over his hole card and revealed a second ace.
He hit his hand and got another ace! He hit it again and got a fourth ace!
He hesitated and looked down at his cards in disbelief.
The next card out was a king, giving him 14. He hit again and got a FIFTH
ACE! His next card was a five, giving him a seven-card 20 with five aces!
The dealer called over the pit boss and showed him the hand. He said he had
been dealing for 15 years and had never seen anything like that. I've been
playing blackjack for many more years than that and can say I've never seen
a hand like that either. Interestingly enough, both players continued to
play at that table. If it had happened to me, I think I would have picked up
my chips and moved on!
