I was there last month for a poker tournament. I didn't step foot inside the casino so I cannot tell you about VP. I can tell you that I strongly suggest against upgrading to the "Rock Star Experience." It was definitely NOT worth the extra money per night. All rooms have an in room jacuzzi and are SUPER nice.
I would suggest booking through the hotel directly or vacationexpress.com because with either of those you get free resort credits. I believe we got $1500 worth for a 6 night stay. Those can be used towards excursions, spa credit etc. They also have a resort credit store but everything is really overpriced. At first you may think, that's ok because I'm using their money, but beware of 16% tax that is added to anything you apply credits toward.
I did the Moon rocker tour which is like an oversized golf cart on steroids. We went through the jungle and along the beach & it was worth every penny! Bring your own bandana and it will save you $5 bucks.
If the spa is your thing then I HIGHLY recommend at least one trip there. They have hydrotherapy that includes an ice room, steam, sauna etc that is included with every treatment. If you book online ahead of time, please reconfirm in person once you are there. I wasn't aware of this policy, and almost missed my first appt. And go an hour early so you can take advantage of the hydrotherapy before!! If you run late for some reason, make sure to ask for a ticket to come back later.
The food was really good IMO, but I'm not picky. Some of our friends had been here last year, and commented that the quality of food had gone down. We ate at Zen, the Teppanyaki grill, twice and it was great both times. Toro is a steakhouse during dinner & I recommend it also. Ipanema is the Brazilian steakhouse and it was ok too. It doesn't have much on Texas de Brazil, but who does? Lol
The adults only pool has the best lunch. Burgers are AWESOME! Also liked the sweet n sour Chicken. (served poolside too)
One more piece of advice I could give, is that you will be surprised at what a couple of bucks, or even a $5 can do. We took a strap of ones and it came in handy!
Hope this helps.
Ps. Try the chicken macaroni from room service.
