This may be obvious, but since points can be used as FP at Boyd, I would usually ask for the discretionary comp if I thought there was any chance I rated it. Why give away money if you don't have to? Don't see how it would affect future marketing offers, but then what does affect marketing is often one of the great and wonderful mysteries of life....
