Was just there a couple of weeks ago, mostly to play live poker, but also to get in my 25 tier points (I did much more) for the "great race" (hope the points register; I've heard of problems from some). I'll be back in early October for one or two of the World Series circuit events, but I usually go to Hammond because its poker room is nicer (although with construction, Southern Indiana is now a quicker drive, and has a hotel which Hammond does not, so I might reconsider). The great news is that both locations still have plenty of full pay VP (Hammond has one bank of progressives, too, while I haven't seen any full pay progressive at Southern Indiana).
I only play JoB and there was plenty of 9/6 on the first floor, which is where I play because it's smoke free and because the poker room is there. Poker room on the right, VP far left as you enter. There are lots of machines, multi-denom (0.25 / 0.50 / $1) and multi-game.
I played the slant tops and found the glare to be problematic, even after changing to several different machines; there are bright lights directly overhead and the screen angle is just right to cause problems. I broke a high pair twice incorrectly because I couldn't see the "hold" indicator above the cards was not "on" due to glare (don't know if I double-hit the hold button or didn't hit it hard enough, but I don't remember ever making mistakes like that when I can see the screen better to check my "hold" before drawing). That reason alone was enough to keep me from playing as much as I would have liked. Not only distracting, but glare like that gives me a headache if I play very long.
As for food, I did the buffet for breakfast and dinner, and although I've enjoyed it in the past (and also the Paula Deen buffets at other locations), I found it a little less tasty this time -- breakfast food was nothing special, including the omelet bar, and at dinner, the beef (I tried two or three kinds) all seemed a little tough. However, there's a big selection (and the price was right, with comp tickets), so next time I would just get small samples of the things I like and see what's good that visit. I'm sure kids would find plenty of choices to like at the buffet unless they're very picky eaters.
The Paula Deen shop is nice, too; I bought one of my favorite t-shirts there ("One Plate is for Wimps") a while back, and although I didn't see that one, there were others, not to mention cookbooks and cookware and so on. Not everywhere that has the buffet has the shop, I think. If you don't enjoy food (and cooking a little bit) like I do, it might be ho-hum to you.
The second floor has the 24-hour deli which has lots of good sandwiches and also a carving station (turkey some nights, prime rib others) with limited hours, although the carving is done in the kitchen -- I ate there twice and enjoyed my food there more than at the buffets (and the price was lower, although my buffets were free for me).
And I've eaten at the steak house before and it was excellent. Legends has good food and is where I think I get the best value, but make sure the band is not playing unless that's what you want; in my opinion, it's always too loud. It may only play on Fridays and Saturdays, I'm not sure.

The hotel is still quite nice; I did not use room service.
