What an interesting story, and very well written too!
About ten years ago, I heard about a way to play lotteries that seemed to make sense. Because many people pick numbers based on birthdays and anniversaries, the strategy is to bet only on numbers over 31. Your chances of winning don't change. But if you win, you don't have to share your jackpot with as many players because there are likely to be fewer winning tickets.
