I just checked out the new "Northern Edge" Navajo casino near
Farmington, NM. It
There are hundreds of new slot machines of every variety and several
dozen keno machines, but only a couple dozen video poker machines,
mostly with less than 95% payback. The best game I found was a few $1
progressive 8/5 Jacks or Better. The highest meter was $4056, but the
casino opened only two days ago. The quarter game is also progressive,
but it's 6/5 JoB.
There is a large group of table games, but at 11:00 AM there were no
dealers or pit personnel, so I don't know what the blackjack rules are
(the Sky Ute casino in Ignacio, CO, has very good blackjack rules).
The poker room is very nice, with six hold-em tables (no stud table).
Again, no casino personnel in the room when I was there, but one player
waiting for a game told me they spread hold-em in 3/6, 2-10, 2-100 and
no limit.
The casino is hard to find if you don't know the road numbers, and the
directions given on their web site are not much help. I've lived in
Farmington for over seven years, but I found it only with the help of
Google Maps. Just look for Northern Edge Casino.
I expect it to be a good place to play poker, and maybe blackjack,
drawing players from the entire northwest New Mexico area, and maybe
some from northeast Arizona.
