Hi Gang:
I don't know what it is about the Harrah's in New Orleans but Hedy and I
have had a couple of huge trips there in recent months and this past weekend
was one of our more lucrative visits yet.
We arrived on Friday for a three-night stay to pick up a free cruise offer
and were pleasantly surprised when our host told us he had some extra
passes for the Harrah's luxury suite at the Superdome for that night's
Saints-49ers preseason game. We gladly accepted and he arranged to have a limo take
us and two of our friends from AC, Kathy and Steve, who also were in town
to pick up the cruise offer, to the game and back. None of us had ever been
to the Superdome and we had a great time soaking in the electric atmosphere
and chowing down on some delicious treats in the box.
It wasn't much of a game ... the 49ers were pretty inept ... but it
certainly was a happening and we thoroughly enjoyed being part of it. Plus, it
gave Hedy some chances to take pictures and post them on Facebook!
The cruise offer required us to play through a certain amount of base
rewards credits to get back in cash the $510 it would cost us in taxes and port
charges for the cruise, so we decided to take a shot at the triple-play $1
NSUD machines in the high-limit area. We spent 90 percent of our time
playing these machines with the other 10 percent on the three $1 9/6 DDB
progressives near the poker room.
Friday our play was limited since we got in late and went to the game at
night but Hedy did manage to get fours with a kicker (she held a lone ace and
drew the fours!) for $800 to keep our first-day loss at a minimum.
Saturday was a whole different story.
After breakfast we were pounding away at the triple-play NSU when I was
dealt A-K-J-10 of spades. We held hands, I hit the draw button and there it
was on the top line ... the queen of spades for a 4K royal!
We switched machines about a half hour later and this time I drew two cards
to the K-10-Q of spades and was almost dumbfounded when the J-A appeared
.. again on the top line ... for another 4K royal! Oh, my God!
We held our own for the next couple of hours and then took a break to have
some lunch in the buffet. At about 1:30 we were back at it on the
triple-play machines and I was dealt A-10-Q-K of hearts. Could it happen again? No
way, right. Well, the VP gods were with me again because the jack of hearts
popped onto the first line and I had my THIRD 4K royal of the day!
Unbelievable!
We had a wonderful dinner at the Besh Steakhouse that night with our
friends and continually shook our heads at this amazing run of luck I was
having.
Sunday, our last day in town, we decided to get conservative since we were
ahead so much so we began to play some quarters on multi-strike and quick
quads. Our play was up and down for a couple of hours but Hedy got antsy and
said she wanted to give the $1 9/6 DDB progressives another shot. With me
watching and cheering her on, she hit quad kings right away to give her
some ammunition and then went on a sizzling run.
She hit threes, fours with a kicker and a couple of other quads to get her
bankroll up to $1,500. Then, she was dealt three aces. She turned to me and
said, "It's about time that I got a handpay on this trip, isn't it?"
I told her, "Do it, baby," and she hit the draw button and, lo and behold,
the fourth ace and a beautiful four popped onto her screen for another 2K
hit! We later cashed out a $1,900 ticket from that machine and continued to
marvel at this spectacular run we were on.
We had an early dinner and got to bed by 9 since we had an early morning
flight home and it was wonderful knowing that we had another five-figure win
in NOLA to think about all the way back to Newark Airport.
Regards,
CoachVee & Hedy
PS: Playing the slant-tops in NOLA certainly helped ease some of the pain
I've been feeling and reported on these forums, plus I've been sticking to a
regimen of daily exercises, including a lot of work with elastic strength
bands, to build up the muscles in my chest and upper back. That has really
helped and set me on the right path. I've also made sure to take frequent
breaks during my sessions to stretch and walk around which has also helped a
great deal.
I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and opinions about what I
could do to help alleviate the physical problems I've been experiencing. Most
have been extremely constructive. I do want to say, however, that "finding
another hobby" is not an option. Playing video poker allows Hedy and me to
live the lavish lifestyle we enjoy now and we would never give that up.
In fact, thanks to some limited play we did on a Celebrity cruise not long
ago, Hedy and I will be on a 12-night "free" cruise to Scandinavia and
Russia next week. We will be spending two nights in Amsterdam prior to the
cruise, which will have stops in Copenhagen, Helsinki, Stockholm, St.
Petersburg, Berlin and Talinn. Giving our bodies a long and relaxing rest will be
priority No. 1! We intend to keep the Good Times Rollin' as long as we can!
