It's more likely just part of a cycle where they've had low traffic &
their knee-jerk reaction from marketing is to run programs which bring in
traffic. However, if they have to tweak the program by running off AP's then
it's a lousy program which is losing more money than the problem it's trying
to correct & creating a lot of bad PR which will severely weaken future
marketing attempts for a long time. Since Suncoast is a locals casino, the
memory of its past treatment of players will circulate for a long time.
Most likely, marketing is just recycling ideas from the past which might
have worked in attracting the customer they wanted or they didn't know who
they were getting & were just happy to see total revenue go up. Back when
there was a lot more business, there was a lot more "profitable" play which
hid the sins of those promotions. Now, with most people with less disposable
income & a promotion that attracts a lot of AP play, the impact to the
bottom line is obvious.
If it were any other industry, the person in charge would be 86'd & a
person with more creativity would be hired. But that's not going to happen due
to the weakness of the industry & the fact that these bad pennies tend to
stay in circulation for a long time. Right now, the industry just can't
afford to hire good people so that's why this happens. When (maybe a very long
when) the market recovers, they still won't get good people because they
won't be able to compete -- why would someone with talent want to work for
right-to-work(fire) companies & for lower wages?
To break the death spiral in LV, they need a lot of casinos to go Chapter 7
so that the remaining casinos can split up a larger customer base
otherwise they will follow the no-profit path the airlines flew for a decade.

So many casinos have been cutting off advantage players lately. I wonder
if this was Suncoast's way of identifying and eliminating them?
