I have a bad habit of making reservations at the last minute & sometimes
walking in & showing front desk my offer which can go one of 2 ways: I get a
room or they're sold out. Next, I'll try a host & they normally have a
block or rooms for people like me (late-comers) & I've got the same 2 options
but usually a higher success rate. Only once had this process resulted in a
night in the car. So this is usually a bad thing to do, i.e. wait to the
last minute to book a room. Well last week in LV, I did my usual & called in
to use an offer the day before & Silverton turned me down for a weekend
stay because they were booked solid so I started looking at my other offers
from other casinos. I had just checked in the night before at Stratosphere
for 2 nights & went to VIP to ask a question about restaurants. I just
happened to have 2 Stratosphere offers with me. I only used one because they
were identical & I thought they had made a mistake. After my restaurant
question, I asked about the 2 offers & said that I'm only allowed to use one
because they were identical & assumed it was a mistake. The gal at VIP looked
at both & noticed they were the same except for the start date, one started
1/1 & the other started 2/1. Both were for 2 nights in a suite & $350 free
play & had the same offer code. She booked an additional 2 nights. This
story does not have a happy ending because I lost $2755 gambling twice what I
normally would but somehow felt good about using both offers. I did have to
move to a standard room for the weekend because the suites were sold out.
Anyway the moral of the story is be like me, procrastinate to the point
where you have few options & desperately hope to get lucky.
